Tut - Whisper Softly

Whisper Softly

This tutorial is my own creation and based on my own ideas. Any and all similarities with any other tutorial is purely coincidental.

Please do not upload to or offer this tutorial on any other site without asking me first. Thank you.

Material you will need:

PaintshopPro – I’m using PSP X2, but you should be able to follow the tutorial in any version.

A scrap kit – I used the beautiful kit Whisper Softly by Country Style Designs, which you can purchase here.

A font of your choice.

A tube of your choice (or the one included in the material – made by me).

1 mask –I used WSL 219, created by Weescotslass, which is included in the material. Check out her blog here for further masks.

No filters required.

You can get the material here.

Now, let’s get started. It might be helpful if you choose the elements you wish to use beforehand, and open them up in PSP prior to starting the tutorial. That way, you have them handy when following each step.

Also, you don’t have to slavishly follow each positioning nor setting – play and experiment a bit, especially if you use different elements.

If you are unsure how to position an element, refer back to my sample tag.

I do assume you have at least some to moderate experience and understanding of PSP.

The DropShadow throughout the tutorial remains the same: V/H -1/3 O/B 36/6.70.

Resizing throughout the tutorial is done with “Resize all Layers” NOT checked.

Open a new image, 550 x 550.

Open WhisperSoftly_Doily1_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 70%.

Open WhisperSoftly_flower frame1_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 50%.

Open WhisperSoftly_PP7_CSD, copy.

Click with your Magic Wand inside the frame, Selections – Modify – Expand by 4.

New layer, underneath frame layer, Paste into Selection, Selections – Select none.

Open your tube, copy & paste, Resize and position inside the frame to your liking.

Again, click with your Magic Wand inside the frame, Selections – Modify, Expand by 4, Invert and on the tube layer, hit “delete”, Selections – Select none.

On frame layer, merge down twice (frame, tube & paper).

Apply Dropshadow.

Optional: if you’d rather have the tube ‘sticking out’, like I did, move the tube on top of the frame, use the Point-to-Point Selection Tool to erase the part of the tube you don’t wish to be visible, apply the Dropshadow, and then merge from the tube layer down (tube, frame and paper) and apply Dropshadow to the frame as well afterwards (or, if tube is sticking way out over frame, apply Dropshadow to the frame and tube separately first, before merging).

Open WhisperSoftly_bleedingheart1_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 40%.

I used the Point-to-Point Selection Tool to mark the single bleeding heart blossom, moved the plant to the lower right and the blossom to the upper left.

Apply Dropshadow to both.

Optional: I used the Point-to-Point Selection Tool to erase part of the leaf.

Open WhisperSoftly_bow3_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 27%, Free Rotate – Left – 38 degrees, move underneath blossom layer.

Apply Dropshadow.

Open WhisperSoftly_Bow2_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 40%, move on top of the blossom (so it covers the end of the stem).

Apply Dropshadow.

Open WhisperSoftly_flower4_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 35%, move underneath frame layer, to the bottom right, duplicate, Mirror – Flip and move copy to the left upper edge.

Apply Dropshadow to both.

Open WhisperSoftly_flower1_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 65%, Free Rotate – Left – 38, move underneath frame, on top of the first flowers, more to the top and right.

Duplicate, Mirror – Flip, Free Rotate – Left – 18 degrees, and move this one undernearth the previous flowers (on top of the doily layer).

Apply Dropshadow to both.

Open WhisperSoftly_flower5_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 35%, move underneath frame, to the left, Duplicate, Mirror – Flip and move underneath the previous flower, a bit to the right.

Open WhisperSoftly_pin2_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 35%, Free Rotate – Left – 52 degrees, Mirror, move to the right, over the tag of the frame.

Apply Dropshadow.

Use the Point-to-Point Selection Tool to erase the bottom part of the pin.

Open WhisperSoftly_Butterfly2_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 35%, Mirror, and position to the right upper part of the frame.

Apply Dropshadow.

Open WhisperSoftly_PP10_CSD_TS, copy.

New layer, Arrange – Send to Bottom.

On New Layer, Selections – Select All – paste into selection.

Layers – Load/Save Mask – Load Mask – MaskWSL_219.

Fit to layer, show all masks, source luminance checked; invert transparency NOT checked.

Merge group.

Optional: resize mask or use your Deformation Tool, if necessary, to tweek your mask layers to your liking and/or lower the opacity.

Now, the next step is to add any further text, copyright information and your watermark to the graphic.

Feel free to merge all layers visible and then resize to your liking or crop the image.

If you prefer a transparent background, save your tag in PNG format.

Otherwise, if you select the JPG, it will automatically add a white background.

Should you care for a different colored background:

New layer, arrange, send to bottom, and floodfill with your color of choice.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

XOXOXO,

Dani
