Leather

This tutorial is my own creation and based on my own ideas. Any and all similarities with any other tutorial is purely coincidental.

Please do not upload to or offer this tutorial on any other site without asking me first. Thank you.

Material you will need:

PaintshopPro – I’m using PSP X2, but you should be able to follow the tutorial in any version.

A scrap kit – I used the fabulous kit Leather by Country Style Designs, which you can purchase here.

A font of your choice.

A tube of your choice.

1 mask –I used WSL 56 and 345, created by Weescotslass, which is included in the material. Check out her blog here for further masks.

No filters required.

You can get the material here.

Now, let’s get started. It might be helpful if you choose the elements you wish to use beforehand, and open them up in PSP prior to starting the tutorial. That way, you have them handy when following each step.

Also, you don’t have to slavishly follow each positioning nor setting – play and experiment a bit, especially if you use different elements.

If you are unsure how to position an element, refer back to my sample tag.

I do assume you have at least some to moderate experience and understanding of PSP.

The DropShadow throughout the tutorial remains the same: V/H -2/1 O/B 29/5.34.

Resizing throughout the tutorial is done with “Resize all Layers” NOT checked.

Open a new image, 500x650.

Open Leather_Frame2_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 60%.

Open Leather_Paper10_CSD, copy.

New layer, underneath frame layer, highlight frame with your Selection Tool.

Selections – Modify – Expand by 2, Paste into selection, Selections – Select none.

Open your tube, copy & paste, Resize and position to liking, underneath frame layer.

On frame layer, merge down twice (frame, tube & paper).

Apply Dropshadow.

Open Leather_Envelope1_CSD, copy merged & paste, Resize 55%, Free Rotate – Left – 39 degrees, move underneath frame layer, to the bottom left.

Apply Dropshadow.

Open Leather_flower4_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 20%, place on top of the belt layer, to the left side of the frame.

Duplicate, Mirror – Flip, move a bit higher.

Apply Dropshadow to both flowers.

Open Leather_flower1_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 40%, move underneath frame layer, to the bottom left corner of frame.

Apply Dropshadow.

Open Leather_Postcard3_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 30%, Free Rotate – Left 3 degrees, move to the bottom right side of the frame, on top of it.

Apply Dropshadow.

Write anything you like on it (or use a brush).

Open Leather_Ribbon2_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 25%, Free Rotate – Left – 32 degrees, move on top of the postcard, to the right.

Optional: I used the Selection Tool to erase one of the tassels, as well as parts of the ribbon sticking out over the postcard.

Apply Dropshadow.

Open Leather_Bow6_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 25%, Free Rotate – Left – 26 degrees, on top of belt layer, move to the right edge of the frame.

Apply Dropshadow.

Open Leather_flower3_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 40%.

Use the Selection Tool to highlight either of the flowers, Promote Selection to Layer, on the original flower layer, hit “Delete” once, Selections – Select none.

Move both flowers underneath the postcard layer, to the right side of the frame, and somewhat up.

Position flowers to liking, rotate one or both flowers if you like, etc.

Apply Dropshadow to both flowers.

Open Leather_Butterfly3_CSD, copy & paste, Resize 30%, Free Rotate – Right – 42 degrees, move on top of the flower layers, to the upper right edge/corner of the frame.

Apply Dropshadow.

Open Leather_Paper2_CSD, copy.

New layer, Arrange – Send to Bottom.

On New Layer, Selections – Select All – paste into selection.

Layers – Load/Save Mask – Load Mask – MaskWSL_345.

Fit to layer, show all masks, source luminance checked; invert transparency NOT checked.

Merge group.

Optional: resize mask or use your Deformation Tool, if necessary, to tweek your mask layers to your liking and/or lower the opacity.

Open Leather_Paper9_CSD, copy.

New layer, above previous paper layer.

On New Layer, Selections – Select All – paste into selection.

Layers – Load/Save Mask – Load Mask – MaskWSL_56.

Fit to layer, show all masks, source luminance checked; invert transparency NOT checked.

Merge group.

Optional: resize mask or use your Deformation Tool, if necessary, to tweek your mask layers to your liking and/or lower the opacity.

Optional: merge both mask layers, and lower opacity to liking.

Now, the next step is to add any further text, copyright information and your watermark to the graphic.

Feel free to merge all layers visible and then resize to your liking or crop the image.

If you prefer a transparent background, save your tag in PNG format.

Otherwise, if you select the JPG, it will automatically add a white background.

Should you care for a different colored background:

New layer, arrange, send to bottom, and floodfill with your color of choice.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

XOXOXO,

Dani
